Reporting Center (Day, Evening & Weekends)

The Youth Outreach Services (YOS) Reporting Center (RC) provides a safe, community-based alternative to detention for youth who would otherwise be held at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center while awaiting court hearings. Rather than placing young people in detention, the Reporting Center offers structured supervision, counseling, education, and skill-building opportunities that help them remain connected to their families, schools, and communities.

What We Offer

The RC is a short-term program designed to keep youth engaged during the times they are most at risk of reoffending. Participants receive individualized support through a combination of:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Educational support and academic enrichment
  • Life skills development
  • Recreational and wellness activities
  • Family engagement
  • Transportation to and from the center
  • Daily meals

By providing consistent structure, positive adult relationships, and meaningful activities, the RC helps youth build the skills and confidence needed to make positive choices.

Evidence-Based Curriculum

The RC follows a specialized curriculum approved by the Cook County Juvenile Probation Department and developed under the guidance of PhD-level educators. Programming is grounded in the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ), emphasizing accountability, personal growth, community involvement, and the repair of harm, while helping youth develop healthy decision-making skills.

Program Goals

Our goal is to reduce recidivism by helping youth successfully navigate the court process while remaining safely in their communities. Through individualized support and structured programming, participants:

  • Remain engaged in school and connected to their families and communities.
  • Reduce their risk of future involvement with the justice system.
  • Develop positive decision-making and life skills.
  • Build on their strengths through educational and recreational activities.
  • Receive supervision and support that promotes accountability.
  • Attend all required court appearances.

Program Schedule

The Reporting Center operates seven days a week to provide consistent support and supervision.

  • Monday–Friday
  • 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday–Sunday
  • 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
