On May 18, 2023, CBS 2 News featured Youth Outreach Services (YOS) as part of Mental Health Action Day on the 6:00 PM evening news. Our very own employees, Monica Montgomery, and Johnnie Duncan, were interviewed by CBS 2’s Andrew Ramos.
Monica Montgomery, Program Manager for Re-Deploy, shared her insights on the impact of COVID-19 on youth and their mental health. From her experience over the past 12+ years at YOS, she has noticed a shift in that while the stigma about mental health has lessened, the challenges for teens have dramatically evolved.
Johnnie Duncan, a family teen counselor at YOS shared his experience as a teen growing up on the South Side of Chicago, and how he relates to at-risk teens and their families. His first-hand experience has become an asset for Duncan, the youth, and the organization.
We deeply appreciate their commitment to YOS, and the youth we serve, as well as shining a light on the meaningful work we do in 23 Chicago neighborhoods and 40 suburban communities.
