Youth Intervention Pathways (YIP)

What is Youth Intervention Pathways (YIP)?

The Youth Intervention Pathways (YIP) program is a free, community-based case management program that provides youth ages 10–17 with up to 90 days of individualized support. Designed as an alternative to deeper involvement in the juvenile justice system, YIP connects young people and their families with the resources they need to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve positive outcomes.

Each participant is paired with a dedicated Service Coordinator who works one-on-one with youth to create an individualized plan and achieve meaningful goals. Together, they focus on building the skills and support needed for long-term success, including:

  • ·Improving school attendance and academic performance
  • Strengthening healthy relationships with family members and peers
  • Building communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
  • Exploring career interests and securing part-time employment opportunities

Through personalized guidance, encouragement, and access to community resources, YIP empowers youth to overcome challenges, make positive choices, and build a brighter future.

Program Services Include:

  • Individualized case management
  • Pretrial support and diversion services
  • Assistance meeting court release requirements
  • Transportation assistance
  • Meals and hygiene products
  • Referrals to community resources and supportive services

Through personalized guidance, encouragement, and access to community resources, YIP empowers youth to overcome challenges, make positive choices, and build a brighter future. At Youth Outreach Services, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to move forward with the guidance, resources, and support needed to build a brighter future.

How does YIP work?

To qualify for the YIP program, a young person must be referred directly by the Chicago Police Department. Participation in this program is voluntary, and there are no fees involved. The YIP program serves young people ages 10 to 17 who have been referred by the Chicago Police Department.
