From Obligation to Opportunity: YOS Celebrates Redeploy Graduation

This February, Youth Outreach Services (YOS) proudly celebrated the graduation of participants in our Redeploy Program—an inspiring milestone that highlights the power of second chances and a supportive community.

The Redeploy program offers youth involved in the justice system an alternative to incarceration. It is designed to provide structure, guidance, and meaningful opportunities for growth—support that helps young people find a new path forward. Many participants enter the program disengaged or reluctant, often attending simply to fulfill a requirement in place of parole or incarceration.

Throughout the program, participants attend five days a week, building skills and progressing through key milestones. Along the way, we witnessed remarkable transformation. Youth who once held back began leading discussions, supporting their peers, and finding strength in their own voices.

But that is not the story our most recent graduating class told.

This year’s graduates left with something far greater: confidence, purpose, and excitement for the future.

At the graduation ceremony, participants shared powerful reflections on their journeys—speaking about how far they’ve come and the people who helped them along the way. Youth who once sat on the sidelines stepped up to lead sessions and facilitate discussions, growing into their voices, confidence, and sense of possibility. Many credited not only YOS staff, but also their families, who grew alongside them and strengthened their support systems.

Staff members offered heartfelt reflections of their own, celebrating each graduate’s journey with kindness and encouragement. Graduates arrived not with relief that the program was over, but with excitement about what comes next.

YOS Executive Director Jamie Noto reminded graduates that this achievement belongs to them—their effort, dedication, and commitment to showing up, even when it was hard, made this graduation possible. Cook County Redeploy Director Mark Warner also recognized the significance of the moment, the impact of the program, and the importance of the work being done at YOS.

This celebration served as a powerful reminder of why we do this work. When young people are given the right support, they don’t just meet expectations—they exceed them.

Graduations are always worth celebrating, and this one was an especially meaningful reminder that young people don’t succeed because they have to be here—but because, when given the right support, they choose to be.

Congratulations to our Redeploy graduates—we can’t wait to see what’s next.
